These subjects included Building and Construction, Engineering, Hospitality — Kitchen Operations, Hair and Beauty, Animal Studies and Automotive.
In addition to the VET program, we have also had a number of students completing school-based apprenticeships in a range of areas such as agriculture, electrical, plumbing and automotive.
The VET Awards Night was held on November 12 at the Moama Bowling Club, with our students represented in Building and Construction and Kitchen Operations.
The VET awards are open to all secondary schools in our region.
To be eligible for this award, students must have completed work experience in the field of their course and were assessed by their VET trainer and the employer they worked for.
From there, students were short-listed and interviewed by a panel of judges.
On the night Seth McLure (Building and Construction), Casey Ryan and Jasmin Malham (Hospitality — Kitchen Operations) represented Rochester Secondary College.
Seth McLure and Jasmin Malham were successful in winning the ‘Student of the Year’ awards in their respective courses.
They have completed all required work outcomes and have successfully completed placements and overall assessments.
These two students, who were thrilled to receive the awards acknowledging their hard work, are committed to their future pathways and passionate about their chosen areas.
Another proud moment was when past student Kelly Shotton was announced as guest speaker.
Kelly was our Sports Captain in 2014 and has since tried many pathways, including a Traineeship at REDHS, retail work and overseas travel.
Kelly is now a second-year apprentice electrician, working at Foodmach in Echuca and loving it.
Her words of wisdom to all students who attended were, “do what you love,” “follow your own pathway” and “girls, don’t let anyone tell you you can’t do something. If you want it, go for it!”
