A Shepparton GOTAFE student is in self-isolation after their family member tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday.

The family member returned from overseas on Monday, March 23.

GOTAFE chief executive officer Travis Heeney said the student attended the Fryers St campus on Tuesday and spent time in a classroom in the Cowley building.

"The student has now self-isolated and all students and staff who have been in close contact with the student have been notified," he said.

He also said the institution decided to halt face-to-face learning last Tuesday, March 24, before they were contacted about the positive case.

"GOTAFE were alerted to the students’ family member testing positive on the evening of Wednesday, March 25," he said.

"These two events were in no way related."

GOTAFE said there were no confirmed cases at any of their locations, and all campuses would remain open with "increased cleaning programs", except for the Cowley building, where a "disinfecting clean" would be completed.

The GOTAFE bookshop and library have also been closed until after Easter.

At this time three cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Greater Shepparton and six in Moira Shire, as the state total climbed to 821 overnight.
