New trainer hits Golden Rivers

By Jamie Lowe

Golden Rivers Deniliquin RSL Boxing Club has welcomed a new trainer to help local fighters improve their skills.

Jake McArdle has joined the Golden Rivers team, bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge to the club.

Golden Rivers president Roy Lynn said he was excited to have McArdle on board.

"Jake trained with me a couple of years ago and has an excellent record in Queensland," he said.

"He's a great addition to the club and we look forward to what he can bring to us.

"I will still train boxers every Monday and Wednesday, as well as running boxing for the High School, Paul Johnstone will train on Thursdays and Jake will help any night he is free.

The club is also looking for more committee members to help run the club and local boxing shows.

"Our meetings are once a month and go for about an hour," Lynn said.

"We also need people who are able to give about an hour of their time each month for maintenance and to help with tournaments, which we aim to hold every three months.

"These tournaments will feature local fighters who train with Golden Rivers, but we'll also hope to get boxers from the surrounding area to fight here as well.

"Unfortunately we have a couple of our boxers out of action with injuries from other sports at the moment, so we've had to pull them out of recent tournaments."
