Michael Everett will take over as club president from Bec Fitzpatrick.
Fitzpatrick has successfully filled the role for the past two seasons of the basketball club.
She will be staying in the fold as a committee member for the upcoming season, making it the fifth season in a row she’s been involved with the Giants.
Everett, who has been on the committee for the past four years, said he is looking forward to the role and knows he has big shoes to fill.
‘‘Bec has done such a good job, she was the vice president two years before that and did a great job over the last two years as president, helping get the club to where it is now,’’ Everett said.
‘‘We’ve been able to fill a boys and girls team for each age group in the last two years which hadn’t happened in the previous two years.
‘‘It’s terrific what she’s done for the club and I only hope I can continue to grow the club from there.’’
The club’s tournament season, along with many others sporting codes, has been put on hold due to Coronavirus restrictions.
‘‘Unfortunately we just don’t know when the season will be able to start,’’ he said.
‘‘With basketball being an indoor sport, restrictions will be harsher on us.
‘‘We also must be allowed to have crowds as parents are relied upon to take their children to tournaments.
‘‘When you have a large number of teams competing from various towns, that adds up pretty quickly.’’
Everett said the club will reconvene in June to decide on its direction.
‘‘We have a few challenges to face before we send out expressions of interest for the upcoming season,” he said.
‘‘We will have another meeting at the end of June and have a better idea if we can even hold trials.
‘‘We will take expressions of interest on our Facebook page for players to get an idea of how many we will have.
‘‘Then we will do the same to see if we can fill coaching positions.
‘‘We don’t have a timeline for when this will happen yet but usually we would be holding trials by July.
‘‘Usually by now we would be in trials for teams. At this stage we are looking to be a month or two behind.
‘‘We will likely get expressions of interest out around early July I believe.’’
Also elected during the AGM were Brendan Willoughby as vice president, Faye Park as treasurer, Skye Hillier as secretary and committee members Michael Todd, Bec Fitzpatrick, Hayley Free, Corinne Mitsch and Richenda Everett.
