A long list of teams had the week off for round 14, with the Deni Rovers managing back-to-back byes in rounds 13 and 14.
Also having the week off were Mathoura, Tocumwal, Berrigan, Jerilderie, Waaia, Katunga, Katamatite and Yarroweyah.
It appears we jumped the gun on the round 13 fixture for the Murray League last week, with a general bye originally scheduled.
The weekend of July 11 would have seen the league play out its round 13 fixture. With the battles already featured last week, there will be no reports for the Murray League this week.
McPherson Media Groups sports journalists have chosen the following Picola & District League clashes as Best Battles.
Rennie v Blighty
Round 11, 2019 at Rennie
Rennie 12.12 (84) d Blighty 9.6 (60)
Rennie did not have it all its own way in last season’s four-goal win against Blighty.
While the Hoppers won the contest, as they would have been expected to do so heading in, they led by just a solitary point at three-quarter time in a game much closer than anticipated.
Luckily for the Hoppers, they responded with a big last term, smashing home four goals to one to take a 24-point win and continue their charge towards finals.
Cam Sudholz did the damage up forward with four goals, with Jack Welsh, Dean Bigger, Jarryd Fountain and Jack Kennedy helping to get the job done.
Lachie MacDonald was Blighty’s best, with Brett Napier (two goals), Judd Barnes (one), playing coach Jack Tyndall, Beau Close and Matt O’Connor also solid for the Redeyes.
Picola United v Strathmerton
Grand final, 2017 at Blighty
Picola United 11.4 (70) d Strathmerton 7.10 (52)
A ‘this is what dreams are made of’ second half helped Picola United clinch its second straight Picola District league north-west premiership.
In another classic match-up with arch-rival Strathmerton, the Blues booted six goals to one in the third quarter to blow a tight grand final to pieces, streaming away from a five-point halftime lead to eventually win by 18 points.
Earlier, the Bulldogs had their own moments of dominance, but failed to make them count with 1.5 in the second term.
Kian Wise was as dynamic as ever with three goals after starting the game as a substitute, with John Walker, Rhys Woodland, Adam Jorgensen and Ian Fry the other leading Blues.
