Gallaghers stand tall

Gallagher Fencing held off a fast finishing Tayla’s Team to claim grand final glory in Deniliquin Stadium’s Mixed Indoor Netball competition on Monday.

Gallaghers jumped out of the gates to take a 12 to 4 lead at quarter time, before extending their lead to 12 goals, 20 to 8, by half time.

A 10 goal to four third quarter by Tayla’s Team brought them back into the contest, with scores at 24 to 18 in favour of Gallagher Fencing.

Tayla’s Team’s comeback was cut short in the last stanza, with an even term seeing both teams scoring nine goals to bring the final scoreline 33 to 27.

Gallagher Fencing’s Gabby Barlow proved to be the difference between the two sides earning best on court honours.

The season’s best and fairest award was also presented on the night, with Muskabeers’ Dane Maxwell declared the winner.

Maxwell polled 11 votes to win ahead of Nat Henthorn (Care South Shakers) on nine.

Others who polled well were Boddie Arthur, Alex Rourke (Tune Squad), Annie Harvey (Gallagher Fencing) and Laura Biggs (Tayla’s Team) all with eight votes each and Jack Tyndall (Muskabeers), Nat Free (Afton’s Team) and Gabby Barlow (Gallagher Fencing) all with seven.
