The Deniliquin Wanderers Soccer Club brought home their second win of the season in round two of the ANKGK1 League 2 Men’s League CupChampionship at Rotary Park on Sunday.

The nine week competition comes under the Bendigo Amateur Soccer League umbrella.
Taking on rival team the Moama-Echuca Border Raiders, both sides fought hard but the Wanderers finished on top with a 1 to 0 final score.
With the Border Raiders coming off a nine goal loss against Swan Hill, coach Josh Perizzolo said the focus for the side heading into Sunday’s match was to “not be complacent”.
“We have a bit of a rivalry with the Border Raiders, so we knew it would be a pretty competitive match,” said Perizzolo.
“They had a fair few new players and were a lot more physical than the Shepparton Jaguars, who we played in round one.
“They may not have been as quick onto the ball, but it was certainly a physical game.”
Perizzolo said the Wanderers had a full-strength side, with some young players on the bench subbing in when Deni needed it most.

“Jyah Lavars came off the bench at half time with fresh legs and gave us the goal we needed,” he said.
Perizzolo said the side will be working on their attack in training and heading into round three this weekend.
“We defended really well on Sunday, and I think if our attacking was a bit more organised we would have been able to get four or five goals on the Raiders, so that’s what we will be working on.”
With only four teams in the competition, the Wanderers will again take on the Shepparton Jaguars this Sunday, at Deniliquin Rotary Park.
Deni will be heading into Sunday’s match at almost full strength.
“We will have two weeks without our goal keeper Martin Blake, which is a big loss, but James Weir will step up to fill his spot,” said Perizzolo.
The Wanderers also welcome Marty Thompson to the club. A newcomer to Deni, he has been a great addition to the side.
