Club Mulwala Outdoor Bowls
Winter has arrived, however last Tuesday was a very pleasant day for the first social bowls outing for the autumn / winter period, with welcome rain following on.
Closing Day: Closing day was once again a great success, over 30 bowlers on the green for a fun game, then up for lunch with non-playing guests and special guests Helen and Bernadette from Friends in Common.
Following lunch a Dutch auction was held with all monies raised adding to the clubs donation to Friends in Common. The total donation was in excess of $700, thank you to all members and guests for your generosity. Thanks to the day’s organisers and catering duo for all your hard work.
Social: 22 bowlers took to the green on a beautiful autumn day, some great bowls were played with competition very strong, also plenty of chat and laughter.
Runners up on the day were the silver haired pairing of Joy Bruce and Bev Norwood, one point behind the dynamic duo of Graeme Arnold and Jennifer Mockett, (the stick is definitely working for Jennifer.)
This week we will host Donvale bowlers on Wednesday, then back to normal Tuesday 12.30 time slot.
Please get your names down, the sheet is on the board, visitors and single entries are most welcome.
If you have never played bowls and think you would like to try, come along and have a go.
YMGCR Bowls
This week has seen the champion A1 Midweek Pennant team head to Moama to represent Ovens and Murray region in the Champion of State Pennant Competition (Midweek).
No-one would ever have expected the cold and wintery conditions they experienced, both players and spectators feeling like they had shifted to Alaska, not just to Moama New South Wales.
Our team had a great first 4 rounds, defeating West Coast (Warrnambool) 53/28, Central Victoria (Buninyong) 61/26, Central Goulburn Murray (Shepparton Golf) 43/40, and Wimmera (Korong Vale) 70/20.
In the 5th round they came up against Peninsula Casey (City of Frankston) and went down 24/39, putting them out of the Grand Final playoff, which that team went on to win.
A very creditable 3rd place for Ovens and Murray and YMGCR in a competition of this standing is an amazing result.
The club are so proud of their effort and with this experience under their belt 2019-20 is looking good.
Results: Wednesday, May 8 - Open 3 Bowl Pairs
Winners: Brincat, S Evans. +21 Runners Up: G Presnell, M Pretty. +20. Jackpot not claimed.
Upcoming Events:
Wednesday, May 15 - Open 3 Bowl Pairs.
Wednesday, May 22 - Open 3 Bowl Pairs.
Good bowling and stay healthy.
Yarrawonga Bowls
The Yarrawonga Bowls AGM was held on Sunday, May 5. The club relies heavily on volunteers so thank you to those members that nominated to take on a position, (some numerous positions).
We still need people to help out in various ways, so please, if you can help in any way, no matter how small, please do.
After the AGM, 2 of our members were presented with Life Membership, Joan Ramsdale and Bob Jeffcott.
Joan Ramsdale has been a valued member of YBC for approximately 35 plus years.
Joan has helped the club in so many ways, from organizing salads for tournaments, to be a Pennant Selector (not an easy job) and much more in between. Joan still bowls with us, although probably not as much as she would like to. Joan is still a great help in the kitchen and has again nominated to be a Midweek Pennant selector. Thank You Joan for everything you have done for YBC over the years. We look forward to your company for many years to come.
Bob Jeffcott - well, what a gem. Bob has been a member of YBC since 1980, almost 40 years.
Bob is a quiet achiever, taking on so many positions over the years. If you want to know something, “Just Ask Bob”.
We are sure Bob and Joan have seen many changes over the years. Bob is still an avid bowler, is still the Greenkeeper, over 60’s coordinator for the club and anything else you want him to be.
Bob is also one of our major sponsors for the Easter Tournament. Thank You Bob and we look forward to your company at YBC for many more years to come.

To all, good health, good bowling and good fellowship.
