The Youth Premier League consists of representative teams across Victoria and has been developed by Cricket Victoria to improve the experience of players and to align the pathway into the State’s Premier Cricket Competition.
The competition also uses the matches to identify the best young talent for the selection of state under age representative teams.
After a lengthy trialling process and travelling across the length and breadth of North-Eastern Victoria, Jobe Fraser, Geoffrey Montgomery, Lachlan Phillips, Zac Fraser, Caleb Mitchell and Will Sharp recently received final confirmation of their successful selection in the North-East Knights.
The majority of the competition takes place in Melbourne during the summer school holidays.
Some of the Under 16 matches against Melbourne based teams however, will be played in Benalla.
Jobe Fraser, 11, has been selected in the Under 14 side as a graceful left-handed batsman. Jobe commented that he is looking forward to the challenge of playing against the state’s most talented cricketers, staying in Melbourne and meeting new people.

Geoffrey Montgomery, 13, has been selected in the Under 14 side as a medium pace swing bowler. He commented that he is looking forward to getting to know his new teammates and having fun. This is Geoffrey’s first year as a North-East Knights member.
Lachlan Phillips, 13, has been selected in the Under 14 side as a medium-fast bowler and also as a hard-hitting middle order batsman.
He reported that he hopes he performs okay, is looking forward to the challenge of playing against the state’s best young talent and winning some matches. This is Lachlan’s first year in the team, after trialling last year.
Zac Fraser, 14, has previously played three years in the Under 14 side. This is his first year in the Under 16s.
Zac is the team’s keeper along with a top order batsman. He is looking forward to making the step-up from the under 14s to the under 16s and keeping to the spinners.
Zac reported that he can’t wait to experience the team aspect, both on and off the field and enjoy Melbourne.
Caleb Mitchell, 15, has been selected as a medium-fast swing bowler as well as a lower order batsman. This is his second appearance in the Knights program.
