Chamber Chat is a new fortnightly column from the Deniliquin Business Chamber, aimed at introducing the community to our events and initiatives.

The Deniliquin Business Chamber was formed in 1940 by business people not too different to those operating in Deni today, and still passionate about developing Deniliquin.
Our goal is to give members the support and tools to excel in business and be the best they can.
Aligned with the NSW Business Chamber we are the peak representative body for the local bushiness community and proud to advocate on its behalf.
Our executive is made up of local business owners and managers who volunteer their time to ensure a strong and vibrant local business landscape.
We are passionate about encouraging the wider community to ‘think local first’ when making a purchase or needing a service.
Following is a bit of a summary of some of the things we’ve been working on:
Do It In Deni Street Bazaar – Saturday, March 9
Chamber is calling for expressions of interest from community groups to get involved in the Street Bazaar — a fun event held in the heart of Deniliquin’s CBD.
We are looking for groups to bring along a marquee, a table, some products, an activity, some information to share with those attending, who would be locals and people visiting Deni over the Victorian Labour Day long weekend.
Expressions of interest can be sent to executive officer Janet Renehan at admin@deniliquinchamber.com.au. They should be received by 5pm on February 27.
Chamber Riggall Fellowship launch – Monday, February 18
The Chamber Riggall Fellowship will be launched this coming Monday.
It provides young people working in a Deniliquin business up to $2000 towards training, study or in professional development to put new skills into practice.
This is a new program and will be awarded to a young person aged 35 or under.
The fellowship is named for the former Conargo Shire’s first ever female councillor and mayor Gaye Riggall, who was also editor of the Pastoral Times and The Independent, which operated in Deniliquin for several years in the 1980s.
International Women’s Day – Friday, March 8
Chamber has partnered with Edward River Council to host a special celebration at the Deniliquin Golf Club on March 8.
Together we have secured prominent health advocate and media presenter Dr Sally Cockburn — Australia’s Dr Feelgood — as the keynote speaker.
Deputy Mayor Pat Fogarty will be host for the day, which will also include a panel discussion with local women.
The lunch will be held from noon to 1.30pm with seats strictly limited.
Tickets are $25 each and bookings can be made online at www.eventbrite.com.au or at council’s Customer Service Centre, at 180 Cressy St, Deniliquin.
Big gift card spend
The Deniliquin Gift Cards were launched in October 2016, and since then the combined value of cards sold has reached $85,000.
It’s a great story and means people are shopping local and staying local.
The amount includes the cards given away as part of the Deniliquin Pastoral Times’ Spend & Win promotion before Christmas, and Chamber is grateful for that support.
The winners are now shopping locally and loving it!
