Russell Gough — who shared the night’s MC duties with Bob Crampton — looked like one of the mythological creatures, complete with ginger beard and rosy cheeks.
And along with more than 100 other people who attended the evening was delivered the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, with an impressive $3800 donated to Navorina Nursing Home.
The evening of fun at the Deniliquin Golf Club was organised by the Deniliquin Soroptimists in conjunction with the Navorina Ladies Auxiliary.
Soroptimists president Pam Ward said she was thrilled with the night and thankful for the community participation.
‘‘It was a fun night that I believe everyone enjoyed and a bit of a break from the current hardship,’’ Mrs Ward said.
More than 650 tickets were sold for the raffle, which was drawn on the night and raised $1000.
‘‘In this time when things are hard it is very gracious to see businesses still being generous when everyone is asking for a donation to help the community,’’ Mrs Ward said.
‘‘Our MCs entertained crowds with the various games we had on offer.
‘‘We did everything back to front on the night, dessert came before the main and we gave everyone the answers for the quiz but not the questions; it was a lot of fun for everyone.
‘‘We had ping pong, a competition to see how many clothes people could put on and a silent auction of more than 20 items, two of which were big prizes.
‘‘Russell Gough donated a boot box as one of our major items and Deni Paint N Panel gave us a polish and cut for a car worth $350 to be auctioned.’’
Mrs Ward said it was wonderful the Soroptimists were able to give a service to the community.
‘‘We do a lot of fundraising and collecting donations so it was great to be able to organise an event where people could come and enjoy what we had to offer.
‘‘The event would not have been possible without the help of the ladies from the Navorina Ladies Auxiliary group; they cooked all the meals and served which was a great help.’’
