A vast range of organisations have benefited from Rotary’s work.
In his annual report, outgoing president Glen Warren said the Rotary theme for 2018-19 was Be The Inspiration, and this theme had been at the centre of its Board and members, both within the club and in the community.
“We have continued to organise or support major events in our community, as well as Rotary in district, national and international undertakings either by attendance, hands-on work or financial contributions,” Mr Warren said.
Events supported in the Deniliquin region included the Ute Muster, Easter Art Show, Uke Muster, Australia Day breakfast, Truck Show, Clean-Up Campaign, Aero Club Fly-in, Edward River Council breakfast, Learn to Drive campaign and Carols by Candlelight.
“It was also wonderful to again have the Deniliquin High School hospitality class cater for our Christmas in July function,” Mr Warren said.
He said membership had increased over the past year and new members had “thrown themselves into the life of the club”.
Assistant District Governor Chris Sutton inducted the incoming president, Wayne Sheean.
Rev Sheean introduced his 2019-20 club Board of Directors which includes: President-elect Denise Phillips, vice president David McPherson, secretary Di Hand, treasurer John Tushuizen, immediate past president Glen Warren, and directors Leslie Hills, Martin Wilmshurst and Carolyn Short.
In his president’s speech, Rev Sheean explained his vision for the year was to consolidate the good and practical work already being done, “to build on that, through consultation with our Board and Rotarians, with some re-organisation of our facilities including an upgrade of our food van and a re-look at how we encourage new members … not just young, but from all age groups”.
“We will consult within our club and with others about providing a lasting legacy to this town which I hope will develop in two forms, providing for both natural beautification and towards the support and encouragement of our young people. Both these great ideas have come from our Rotarians,” he said.
Rotary contributions were made to: Rotary Health $1500, Rotary Foundation $1500, ROMAC $1000, Navorina Nursing Home $1000, Salvation Army $500, DHS Driver Education $500, Deniliquin Hospital $500, Children First $500, DHS hospitality $500, Deniliquin Historical Society $500, MS Society $500, Recharge Support $500, VRA $1000, District drought relief $1000, Vinnies Services $100, Deniliquin High School $100, Deniliquin North Primary School $100, Deniliquin South School $100, St Michaels School $100, Edward Public School $100, Deniliquin Christian School $100.
