Taffy takes medal

By Deniliquin Pastoral Times

Andrew ‘Taffy’ Brunker had an excellent round of 76-8-68 to claim the Brian McCleary Accounting monthly medal on Saturday.

He was the only player to score a sub 70 round in the pleasant winter conditions.

‘Taffy’ won A grade from runner-up Peter Astill with net 75, B grade went to Phil Gatacre on net 71 from Alan Jenkin 73, and C grade to Robert Campbell net 70, from Ann Bull 76.

The ladies monthly medal, played last Thursday and sponsored by Country Club Motel, was won by Denise Hunter with net 72 from Vicki Brunker 76.

On Wednesday the going was tough in windy conditions. A grade winner was Tom Maw with 35 points from Graeme Rothwell on 33, and in B grade Robert Armytage had 38 to win by a shot from Des Ramsey.

There is a busy week coming up on the course.

Tomorrow is Borella Cup, so if you want a chance to win this coveted trophy put your name on the timesheet in the pro shop.

Sunday is a two man ambrose qualifying event with noon shotgun start. The finalists go to Wagga Country Club for the play-off on November 24.

On Monday the veterans have their monthly mixed event, with 9am gathering for a 9.30 shotgun start.

Then there are the regular events for the remainder of the week - Tuesday ladies 9 holes, Wednesday men’s stableford and Thursday ladies event.

We have had some travelling golfers over the past week who have enjoyed success.

Last Friday a group of ladies went to Rich River for their annual bowl, where Lyn O’Brien was runner-up in A grade.

On Monday the ladies went to Tocumwal for their annual bowl, where in-form Denise Hunter won B grade. On the same day a group of men travelled to Shepparton for Goulburn Valley Veterans, where John Radeski and Neville Werner were third in the fourball stableford event, beaten for the runner-up prize on countback.

On Friday nights the pizzas have returned and are very popular. You won’t find a better value pizza! There are also plenty of prizes in the meat and voucher raffle.

Unfortunately the Christmas in July, which was scheduled for next Friday night, has been cancelled.
