Split verdict: Greg Lynn guilty of one camper murder

Airline pilot Greg Lynn has been convicted of the murder of Carol Clay but found innocent of killing Russell Hill, after 12 jurors returned to court with a split verdict.

The 57-year-old faced a five-week trial in the Supreme Court accused of the March 2020 murders of Mr Hill and Mrs Clay, taking to the witness stand to tell his story in the final weeks.

He pleaded not guilty to both counts of murder.

Lynn said during the trial that the two deaths were accidental and admitted to burning the crime scene and destroying their bodies.

But prosecutors said he killed both of the campers intentionally and then tried to cover up his crimes.

Twelve jurors began deliberating on their verdict on June 17, returning to the court about seven days later with their decision.

Asked for a verdict on Mr Hill's murder, the jury's foreperson told the court on Tuesday "not guilty".

Asked about the murder of Mrs Clay, the foreperson replied "guilty".

Lynn raised his eyebrows but remained silent after the two verdicts were read aloud.

Justice Michael Croucher discharged the jury and Lynn will be taken back to prison to await his sentence.
