Local contractor Deni Civil and Construction Pty Ltd has been awarded a contract for $1 million in Deniliquin roadworks.
The company, formerly known as Deni Sand and Soil, was appointed by Edward River Council to complete the Wood St and Victoria St Reconstruction Projects, which are close to starting.
Mayor Norm Brennan said there was a competitive tendering process, and he was glad the works have been awarded to a local company.
‘‘It’s a huge boost to the community when local contractors are awarded works and Deni Civil and Construction has the capacity to carry out two road reconstruction projects simultaneously,’’ Cr Brennan said.
‘‘Next month the Deniliquin based contractors will begin to reconstruct a section of Wood Street between Hardinge Street and Junction Street, and a section of Victoria Street between Davidson Street and Box Street.
‘‘The projects, which are set to be completed by the end of November, include the renewal of kerb and guttering and the reconstruction of road shoulders.’’
The projects are being funded by merger money, provided with the amalgamation of Deniliquin Council and Conargo Shire.
They are two of four projects being delivered through council’s $2.39 million Urban Road Infrastructure Program funded with money from the merger.
