Modern twist on an iconic tale

The community will be transported to the wonderful world of Oz when Deniliquin High School hosts its first production in a decade tonight and tomorrow.

The student cast will treat audiences to a performance of ‘The Wizard from Oz’, which they have fine tuned in dress rehearsals last week during the school holidays.

Teacher and play director Rebecca Hof said the production will follow the classic tale of the movie ‘The Wizard of Oz’, but will have a slightly modern twist.

‘‘It follows the script of the film but we modernised it to fit current times and to help the setting fit in to Deni,’’ she said.

‘‘I found out the school hasn’t held a production for at least 10 years so a lot of hard work has gone in to making this possible.

‘‘We’ve been putting this together since March, rehearsing every Wednesday during the school’s sport periods. We did a full run of the show on Friday and it all went smoothly. The students have put a

lot of effort into this and we can’t wait to showcase all of our hard work.’’

The iconic role of Dorothy is being played by Meg Taylor. The friends she meets along the way will be played by Roisin Scofield (Scarecrow), Kirn Kular (The Tin Man) and Cooper Wall (The Cowardly Lion).

Two performances will be hosted at the high school’s Multi Purpose Centre. Doors open at 7pm tonight and tomorrow. Tickets will be available at the door, for $10 per family or $5 for a single ticket.
