A 1928 Model A Ford Pickup, lovingly preserved and proudly presented by the Yore family from Tamborine, Queensland.
The ute made the long journey from the family’s farm, ‘Spiddal’, thanks to Show n Shine sponsors Walkabout Services, and arrived in Deniliquin as a rolling tribute to six generations of Yore heritage.
Shaun Yore represented the fifth generation of the family at the event, alongside his siblings Kylie and Dennis.
Shaun’s son Mitch, along with his cousins, make up the sixth, all part of the legacy tied to this near-century-old vehicle.
The Model A was designed with a universal chassis, allowing buyers to customise the rear to a sedan, wagon, or in this case, pickup/ute.
“They were all built the same, and you could customise what back you wanted,” Shaun explained.
The Yore family’s connection to the Model A runs deep.
Shaun’s great-grandfather owned one, and his father later acquired this replica to honour that memory.
“He had it sitting under his porch,” Shaun said.
“We put a new battery in it, cleaned it, and brought it down.”
Despite its age, the ute is still fully functional.
“It still runs, stops and drives,” Shaun noted, pointing out its original spoked wheels and classic design.
It’s more than just a showpiece, it’s a family heirloom that once gave joyrides across the family property, and now gives festival-goers a glimpse into Australia’s motoring past.
“This is close to a 100 year-old ute. It’ll be interesting to see what utes are like in another 100 years.”
