Murphy made his senior debut at the age of 14 in 2018, in a season where he kicked 121 goals in the Under 14s competition.
He then went on to cement his place in the Deniliquin Rovers senior football side in 2019, as well as starring in the thirds team, with both the seniors and thirds playing in preliminary finals.

At the Under 15s Australian Rules national carnival, Murphy claimed the medal for the Player of the Carnival for NSW and was also was named in the U15s 22-man All Australian squad.
Through these performances the young Roo not only earned himself a Riverina Blue, but also claimed the prestigious Premier Sporting Challenge Award.
Murphy was humbled by the award win, saying his achievements could not be reached without the support of others.
‘‘I want to say thank you to the Deniliquin Rovers, and to my mum who has been my taxi,’’ he said.
‘‘I also want to thank Alex Hay who has helped me with my footy, both as a coach and now as a mentor, which has really helped take me places.’’
Murphy’s accolades have gained the attention of AFL club GWS Giants, with the onballer invited to play in the GWS academy side at Canberra this weekend.
The games will be used as trials for the Under 16s NSW/ACT Rams team that competes at the NAB AFL Under 16s Championships.
‘‘I was invited to those tryouts based on my performance in 2019,’’ Murphy said.
‘‘If I can get selection in the squad it will be the opportunity of a lifetime.
‘‘I have the goal of playing in the AFL one day and this is a stepping stone towards that.
‘‘It will be good to test my abilities against the best the state has to offer and then hopefully I can take on the best Under 16s footballers in the country later this year.’’
