Mr Breslin passed away part-way through an art project which will be launched at this year’s Deni Ute Muster.
The Anthony Breslin Art Prize has been created to honour the internationally recognised Australian artist’s legacy, and his passion for supporting and nurturing the creative voice within us all.
Conceived by Anthony’s long-time friend, Tara Strong, and in partnership with the Deni Ute Muster, the inaugural prize will focus on submissions from two youth categories - 8-12 years and 13-18 years.
All works will be shown at the Peppin Heritage Centre Gallery, with the winners (including a People’s Choice Award winner) receiving generous cash prizes.
Anthony was a big supporter of Deniliquin and the Deni Ute Muster.
He was given an incredibly warm welcome by the community, business leaders and creatives of all ages when he launched his touring exhibition, Melange, at the Peppin Heritage Centre Gallery in June 2024.
Soon after, he received a commission for a mural work to be placed on the Muster grounds.
He created ‘Utetopia’, celebrating the Ute Muster in his iconic, vibrant, artistic style.
This mural was the last public work he created before he passed away in April this year.
His vision was completed by his assistant and fellow artist Emily Lowe, with assistance from about 20 Deniliquin High School students.
The mural has been installed to the right of the Deni Ute Muster’s main stage.
