One of two local students being supported by Tocumwal Rotary to take part in the program, Ava said she chose Italy because “I’ve never heard anything bad about Italy”.
Ava will not only dive into Italian culture and language, but will also represent her community on the global stage.
“Mum and Dad are definitely on board,” Ava said, sharing her excitement about the journey ahead.
“I’m very keen - very keen to get on the plane!”
The application process was rigorous, involving many forms and plenty of preparation, including an obligation to learn the basics of Italian.
Ava says the language challenge is one she’s ready to embrace.
With Tocumwal Rotary supporting two students to take part in the program, it’s expected Tocumwal will also host exchange students from other countries.
They are seeking four generous families from the area to host a high school exchange student for a period of 3-4 months during 2026, as part of a rotating arrangement where the student lives with three different families over the course of the year.
Hosting an exchange student is a rewarding opportunity to share your home and culture with a young person from another part of the world.
It’s a way to help them experience life in Australia, while your own family gains insight into another culture.
