Deniliquin’s Local Health Advisory Committee last week launched a project which will see a series of banners located around the community.
Each of the 12 large, colourful banners focuses on a singular health topic.
The topics were identified through a community health survey.
They are: bowel cancer, kidney health, stroke, quitting smoking, disability support, mental health, skin cancer, lung health, dementia, heart health, diabetes and kids’ health.
Each banner provides basic information, and prominently features a QR code which will take people to a short questionnaire which, when filled out, will then provide “actionable ideas people can do that could contribute to better health outcomes”.
The idea of the project is to encourage people to consider a range of different health conditions which often go unchecked.
The ultimate goal is to improve health outcomes for the region.
The project was launched at the Deniliquin Multi Arts Centre on Thursday, with more than 25 people in attendance.
It included health professionals, Edward River Council representatives and interested members of the public.
The evening included information about the new campaign and meet and greet conversation between attendees while enjoying light refreshments.
Deniliquin Local health Advisory Committee chair Lourene Liebenberg said the campaign is the central part of the Lifting Health Outcomes in Deni initiative, which is the major project for the Deniliquin Local Health Advisory Committee in 2024.
“The banners will be rotated through various locations in Deniliquin and change location every three weeks,” she said.
“Nine information sessions will also be held throughout the year as part of the project.
“These will also focus on a particular health condition or area of health, and will include presentations by nurses or other allied health workers with an expert knowledge on the topic.
“This project is made possible with funding obtained from MPHN Community Grants and funding by MLHD/NSW Health.”
