Billie was awarded on Thursday with the Young Citizen of the Year award for the council area.
The honour recognises her active involvement in the Echuca and District Netball Association, and her willingness to help further sporting opportunities for the local area.
“Billie was elected to the Netball Association's Committee of Management in 2019 at the age of only 17, and then as everyone knows, the following two years played havoc on local sports as local groups battled the effects of the pandemic,” her nomination read.
“But this did not phase Billie, who worked tirelessly during this time to assist with the running of the organisation to enable the community - both young and old - to have the opportunity to play sport. This proved crucial to the mental and physical wellbeing of many people in the community.
“Fast forward to 2022 and Billie stepped up to the role as convener of both the Saturday competition and junior spring competition. It is extremely difficult to find adult volunteers to accept these roles let alone a young university student.
“Billie, as always revelled in her new position accepting advice and support from her older, more experienced co-committee members as she gained her own confidence and skills to take over running of the competitions.
“She has also taken on roles on tournament days assisting with the convening of both the annual tournament and primary school tournament, which had a combined total of 142 team entries.
“Billie is undoubtedly an inspirational role model for young people.”
