It is expected to aid in a swifter and easier response to emergencies.
Booroorban Captain Damon De Jong took delivery of the CAT 1 appliance on December 17.
It replaces a 20 year-old tanker, which will be heading to West Windouran Brigade early next year to be auctioned off.
The CAT 1 holds more than 4500 litres of water and features an electric motor on the front and pump controls.
NSW RFS Mid Murray Inspector Doug Adamson said this means the tanker can be managed by only one or two crew members.
He said the tanker is also fitted with all the latest equipment and modern communication technologies.
‘‘It is a more modern truck, with all the newest gadgets,’’ Insp Adamson said.
‘‘This truck will make every facet of the job better and easier.
‘‘The tanker features a mobile phone booster, which enables better phone reception — a handy feature for the crew when attending incidents.’’
The CAT 1 is one of two tankers now housed at the Booroorban fire shed.
The other is a CAT 6, which holds 9000 litres of water and requires three or four crew members at a time for operation.
