Entries for the action-packed competition - to be held at the show on Saturday, March 2 - are now being taken.
Steward and scrutineer Paul Osmond said while entries close on February 23, getting your entry sorted early is quite important.
You car must meet certain requirements to be suitable for competition, and Mr Osmond and other regular competitors are happy to provide advice if you need it.
Mr Osmond said entry numbers are also capped, and in addition to himself he’s aware of four of five others who are likely to compete this year.
“We had six compete last year, but 10 would be a good number,” Mr Osmond said.
“The rules for the competition and your demo car are on the Deniliquin Show website, and we’re happy to talk people through them if they need, but for a start you need to make sure there’s no glass.
“Doors need to be welded or chained shut, including the boot and bonnet, and depending on your car you may also have to remove the fuel tank.”
Mr Osmond will be one of the competitors in the Deni demo derby arena.
It will be his second attempt at gaining a win at Deniliquin.
He has been competing in demo derbies for a number of years, sometimes travelling to other shows across the region to compete.
“Last year I also competed at Yarrawonga and Griffith, and Deni will be my first derby for 2024,” he said.
“The demo derby is certainly a drawcard, and as for the entrants I think it’s the thrill of the action and the adrenalin that attracts people.
“I will be competing in the same car I had at Deni last year - an old FE Falcon sedan.
“It is still pretty straight (after last year) and ready to go.”
First prize in the 2024 demo derby is $2000, with $800 for second and $500 for third.
