She celebrated a birthday on Wednesday, and later in the week ended an almost 22 year career as the administration manager for Ray White Real Estate Deniliquin.
And while it did happen in quick succession, Christine said it has been in the works for some time.
“I did give notice three years ago,” she laughed.
“I reached retirement age on Wednesday and I have spent 50 years working, so it was just time (to retire).
“There has been a lot of changes in software over the years, and it’s time to let someone younger do it all.
“And it is also time for me to spend more time with my grandkids.
“But I will be back to help out as needed.”
In anticipation of the big day, Christine has been working only four days a week for the last 12 months.
And she’s also had the pleasure of teaching her role to someone very close to her.
“My daughter-in-law Anna McMahon is actually taking over from me.
“She started working alongside me in February, learning the role.
“So now while she is working I can look after the kids.
“I also have plans to drive to Perth to visit my son Andrew and his family.
“The last time I drove to Perth, instead of flying, was when I was 21.”
Christine joined what is now known as Ray White Deniliquin after a decade long association with St Michael’s School Deniliquin.
“My hours were cut at St Michael’s, and as a single mother I needed a full time job.
“I was appointed as office manager, and I’ve held that role since day one and worked with Lester (Wheatley) the entire time.”
There’s not been too many changes in Christine’s role over the years, which has seen her be the authorised Rural Bank representative and handle the “money side” of the business.
“I have seen a lot of people come and go (staff and clients) and I will really miss the interactions with everyone.
“I have formed some really good relationships with our clients - not only the landlords, but the tradies and Rural Bank customers too.
“I have also forged some lifelong friendships with the people I have worked with, and I have been working with some of them for a very long time - including Sue Pitts and Tanya Smith.”
Christine’s career in clerical roles started with the County Council, and she also worked for Deniliquin Council and waitressed for 20 years while raising her family.
“I’ve never been one to chop and change jobs,” she said.
“I have always done long stints, and mostly always clerical.”
Christine’s final day with Ray White Deniliquin was on Friday.
