Classic Aussie fun to raise cash for flood victims

More than $1000 has been raised for families impacted by floods by Deniliquin High School students and staff.

The school hosted a Dry Aussie Day on Thursday — so named because of the Aussies dry sense of humour and praying for drier conditions — with proceeds being used to purchase vouchers for flood victims in Lismore.

It was coordinated by the school’s Collaborative Organisation Group of Students (COGS) — formerly known as the Student Representative Council.

It was a casual dress-up day with both staff and students wearing Aussie themed clothes.

Some chose to dress as the typical outback Aussie, complete with RM Williams boots and Akubras, while others paid homage to our way of life by sporting their AFL gear.

There were games during the lunch break organised by teacher Kylie Barker, including the Russell Coight Obstacle Course and Gumboot Throw, and COGS members and other helpers cooked and sold sausages for $2 apiece.
