The premier one-day event is being hosted by Riverina Merino, supported by Elders, Nutrien and the Australian Wool Network and a range of other sponsors.
There will be displays from 11 ‘host studs’ - core Riverina Merino studs from the local area.
Joining them will be representatives of 12 other studs from outside the immediate local area, or who feature other sheep breeds.
The stud displays will be complemented by an array of trade sites - with 27 confirmed to be attending - and a schedule of guest speakers.
Expo co-convenor David Wilson said the group’s aim is to bring sheep producers, genetics and industry information together in an environment where genetics and management both have a big impact.
“We will have plenty of sheep for people to look at, and give them a chance to find out more about the information and tools and equipment that will help them in their sheep businesses,” he said.
“We decided to put the day on to make sure people are in the best position to capitalise on improving industry prospects and bring everything together in one place.
“The member studs of the Riverina Merino organisation decided to widen the display base to other Merino studs from through the region and Riverina stud breeders of other wool sheep breeds which form the industry underpinned by the Merino.
“This will give local sheep producers the best chance to access the information they need for their businesses, in one place close to home.
“There has been a lot of interest, and this is the first time it’s been held in a few years, so we’re hoping for a great day.”
The expo is being hosted at the Conargo Recreation Reserve, starting from 10am.
A lucky gate prize of $2500 will be up for grabs, which can be spent at a host stud of your choice.
Kicking off the guest speaker presentations will be Midfield Meats general manager Dean McKenna at 11.30am, followed by Australian Wool Innovation chairman Jock Laurie at 12.30pm.
A Tech Wool presentation will begin at 2pm, with Tom Hawkins rounding out the speakers at 2.30pm.
While the former Finley local is most well known for his career as a footballer with the Geelong Cats AFL Club, Mr Hawkins is attending in his role in the livestock and marketing team with Nutrien in Geelong.
Mr Hawkins will then lead the charity auction to close out the event.
The Riverina Sheep & Wool Expo replaces the former Elders Riverina Sheep Expo, which was last held in Deniliquin three years ago.
It was established in 2009 after the drought forced the cancellation of the Riverina Field Days.
Originally held in Deniliquin, Conargo was chosen as the location for the re-launch because it is the birthplace of the modern Merino.
