Council pay donated to Nav

When Marc Petersen stood for and was elected to Edward River Council late last year he made himself a promise.

Every dollar he earned from his new role would be spent locally, as much as possible.

Now, he’s turned to donating his council fee.

Cr Petersen made a $1000 donation to the Navorina Nursing Home fundraising appeal on Monday.

The amount is his fee for one month.

“I want to give back to the community,” Cr Petersen said.

"I work full time, so I thought it was best to put my council stipend to good use in the community.

“And every little bit helps local charities.”

Navorina’s fundraising appeal was launched in June last year, with the money raised by the community helping to complete a multi-stage upgrade of the facility.

The upgrades provide modern facilities for residents and their guests, specialist space for visiting allied health professionals and increases the number of beds to 60.

Construction and upgrades to residential wings have been ongoing for a number of years, using government grants and Navorina cash reserves.

Community fundraising will help with furnishing the new rooms.

Fundraising for Navorina reached $800,000 at the start of this week.
