A number of Vitacall health alert machines in town were put out of action during the recent overnight storm.
When Vitacall received notice of the incident they made calls to the affected people to check on them.
However many, like myself, who didn’t recognise the calling number did not answer.
It prompted the company to then contact paramedics in our area and have them go to the various homes to check on people, which they did.
In my view, the whole thing could have been solved more quickly and less expensively if Vitacall had their Caller ID on their phones and if they had given the ambulance service the phone numbers of their affected clients so they could call instead of having to race around the town/district.
Simple really!
Despite all this, thanks to the paramedics who knocked on my door to ensure I was okay.

A photo by Paul Clear of the flooding near Tarragon Lodge at Picnic Point.
The extent of forest flooding is continuing to amaze people who have lived here for years.
But I guess we have so many rivers and creeks which distribute the water through the forest and along tracks that it should be expected.
Let’s hope the rains stop soon, even though it means local irrigators should get a decent water allocation this season.
