Held annually in support of the Cancer Council, the day honours those affected by cancer and raises vital funds for research, prevention, and support services.
Congratulations to the organisers of the two separate fundraising events held yesterday.
A group of volunteers held one fundraising stall outside My Shop in Napier St, which Deniliquin Florist owner Angie Wren and her supporters did their bit in Cressy St with a barbecue and cake stand.
Fresh daffodils and Daffodil Day merchandise were also on offer.
We’ll have photos and details of each event in Tuesday’s edition.
Social Link meeting
Looking for a way to become more connected with your community?
Deni Social Link is a group which brings people together in a relaxed and fun way, all with the intention of helping you meet new people.
The group was instigated to help newcomers to town get to know their new community.
But long time locals are getting just as much enjoyment and benefit from attending, forging new friendships and getting to know new residents.
The next Deni Social Link meet-up is on Saturday, August 30 at Harry Pepper Coffee, at 115 End St, Deniliquin, from 10am.
It’s an informal gathering, so just pop down for a coffee and say ‘hello’.
If you would like some more information about the group, call 0472 678 621 or email denisociallink@gmail.com.
‘1000 Books Before School’
As part of Book Week 2025, Edward River Library is promoting reading to infants and young children with the ‘1000 Books Before School’ program.
It is aimed at children 0-5 years of age, and supports developing their vocabulary and prepares them to become a lifelong learner.
Your child will learn the love of reading by your reading to them.
You can sign up for free at Edward River Library (for which membership is free too) and track your books with a special booklet.
Market day tomorrow
The Lions Community market is on again tomorrow in the Deniliquin Waring Gardens from about 8am.
Head down and find all kinds of food, items, plants and other odds and ends.
Make sure to stop by the Lions catering van, and support this great local community group.
With a mostly sunny day with a top of 20℃ predicted, it should be a great day out.

Tyre dumping warning
Edward River Council is reminding people that only the Deni Landfill Depot can accept old tyres.
It is illegal to dispose of any tyres at Edward River Council's rural landfills at Wanganella, Blighty, Conargo, Booroorban, and Pretty Pine.
The Deni landfill can accept up to four tyres at once - the maximum allowable for users - and only from Edward River Council residents.
If you live in another local government area, you need to use your local approved site.
Keep it legal.
For more information on what you can dispose of at each site, proper disposal of certain products or landfill opening times, head to https://www.edwardriver.nsw.gov.au/Services and select the ‘Rubbish, bins and recycling’ option for relevant information.

The display has featured across Australia, including at the Powerhouse museum and the Sydney Observatory.
The gallery is located in the Deniliquin Multi Arts Centre, at 58 Cressy St, Deniliquin.
