Demand for financial counselling skyrockets in Victoria

“Having recently met with Financial Counselling Victoria... (its) counsellors paint a sombre picture of the financial struggles that a rapidly growing number of everyday Victorians are facing.” Ms Cleeland said.

Ms Cleeland criticised the Victorian Government, saying it had neglected this crisis, stressing the urgent need for immediate help.

A state government spokesperson said it had invested millions of dollars into financial counselling services.

“Unexpected financial hardship can come at any time,” the spokesperson said.

“We’re making free, confidential financial counselling available during difficult times, to help people take stock and get back on their feet.”
