The Deniliquilters & Friends will launch their ‘Crumbs’ project with the free demonstration in the Multi Arts Hall in Cressy St from 11am.
Group members Jennifer Gow and Liz Macdonald said the project focuses on a type of quilting that is growing in popularity.
‘‘It doesn’t involve actual food, even though it is called ‘Crumbs’; it’s about making fabric from scraps, and threads,’’ Mrs Gow said.
‘‘It’s becoming more popular nowadays. Bespoke, and handmade things have come back,’’ she continued.
‘‘Little odds and sods of fabric are put into a block (to make a quilt), and we’d love to have more young people come along and learn about the process,’’ Mrs Macdonald added.
The ‘Crumbs’ was also a topic of discussion at last week’s Deniliquilters session, which was also heavily influenced by St Patrick’s Day (which was the next day).
Many of the 30 women there to quilt were dressed to the St Patrick’s theme, wearing clothes, sashes, felt clover badges, and splendid green hats.
‘‘There wasn’t really a deeper meaning to it, but it certainly made us all laugh,’’ Mrs Macdonald said.
‘‘We ate all green food, including green egg sandwiches, but we didn’t have ham with that.’’
