Chrysler rarity
While most eyes were on the action in the air at the Deniliquin Aero Club Fly In event on Saturday, there were plenty of interesting stories on the ground.
As part of the event the Deniliquin District Veteran and Vintage Car Club had a display of their vintage vehicles.
Among the collection of cars were two Chryslers parked side by side.
Lex Kirkby had his 1954 Plymouth Chrysler on display, with his nephew Maurice Wilson’s 1950 DeSoto Chrysler parked next to him.
‘‘I’ve had my Plymouth for about 22 years,’’ Mr Kirkby said.
‘‘Maurice got his Chrysler in 1985 so he’s had his longer than I’ve had mine.
‘‘It’s very rare to see two Chryslers from a similar era in the one spot at these events.’’
Swag Family
Locals were quick to spot two tandem bikes riding through town this week.
The group of four riding the bikes are parents Nicola and Andrew Hughes with their children Hope and Wilfy.
They are three months into a year-long adventure around Australia which started at their home in Tasmania, and they have clocked more than 2000 kilometres so far.
They stayed along the Edward River and said they enjoyed the scenery and swimming at the beach.
More to come about the ‘Swag Family’ next week.
Free film night
Deniliquin Film Society will be hosting a free double feature film night at Intereach on Friday, April 12.
The night will feature 2001 short film Bowl Me Over and 2018 film Trench.
Bowl Me Over is a comedy about cultural difference, hair dye gone wrong and the fiery spirit of a daring woman armed with a few bottles of bleach.
Trench is a comedy/thriller where a struggling stand-up comedian — Sam Slade — and a reclusive writer — Becky Holt — are thrown together when the latter experiences strange phenomena in her own home and Sam, desperately broke, poses as a private eye.
The event kicks off at 7.30pm with an estimated finish time of 10.30pm.
Our generous RSL
Many community groups will benefit from the latest Deniliquin RSL ClubGrants, which were distributed last week.
Yet again, the RSL has made a significant contribution to the community, this time providing support to 38 groups, as we highlighted in Tuesday’s edition.
Unfortunately in that article there was an error in the total funding which the RSL has given, which in this allocation was $269,000.
If you leave a ‘zero’ off the end it makes a pretty big difference!
Congrats to the RSL for its ongoing community efforts, and our apologies for the error.
