Deni Golf Club offers 'hit the target' prizes at opening

A ‘hit the target’ competition will be hosted at the Deniliquin Golf Club next week, to mark the official opening of the club’s new driving range shelter.

Three $100 prizes will be up for grabs, and there will be local vouchers and ball machine token vouchers for the children’s competition.

Felicity McCalman said everyone who attends the official opening will get free access to the driving range and ball machine, with a Deniliquin Rotary barbecue and refreshments also provided.

The event will be held at the club from 6pm to 8pm next Friday, November 19, and everyone is invited to attend.

‘‘What started as an idea four years ago to sell buckets of balls from pro shop and then pick the balls up by hand has evolved to a fully covered range facility with ball dispenser, pick up cart, ball washer and fully automated system under lights for use 24 hours a day,’’ McCalman said.

‘‘The original brainchild of member Aly Ferguson has seen what we have now — an asset for our club and the town.

‘‘Anyone can come to the range at anytime and get their balls from the automatic dispenser and hit.

‘‘It was built by Taffy Brunker and the lighting installed by Marshall Electrical. A portion of funding was a grant, with the remainder being paid by the club.

‘‘We invite you to come along and try the facility and enjoy DGC hospitality.’’
