Understanding and navigating aged care services can be confusing and confronting from the outside.

Irrespective of eligibility, Cooinda is here to support you through the various programs that we have available.
To understand which program suits you best, it would probably be a great place to start by explaining what each service is designed for.
The usual process is to undergo an aged care assessment, which is organised by My Aged Care. We can happily advise you on how to have this completed.
Based on the assessment it will be determined that you may have access to one or more types of service provision that may include the following, which are provided by Cooinda.
Home care package
A home care package is a flexible, ongoing government-funded care package. It is individualised and designed to assist you with your daily care needs.
Services are arranged based on your choice and assessed goals. You will have one of our dedicated care managers assigned to work with you developing and regularly reviewing your care plan.
Short-term restorative care
Short-term restorative care is an eight-week program funded by the Commonwealth Government.
This program is co-ordinated by one of our fantastic registered nurses, who will work with you to ensure your health needs are addressed alongside our Allied Health clinicians and your medical practitioner.
The aim of this program is to deliver therapy and medical care to improve your day-to-day life and thus limit functional decline.
For example, after a fall, injury or illness that has had a significant or debilitating impact on you.
Irrespective of the program, your care manager will work with you to support your goals and care needs, ensuring cost-effective service delivery within your package budget.
Your care manager will also advocate for you, making appropriate referrals, guiding you through My Aged Care and other government agencies, and helping you to complete the relevant paperwork and forms.
Our Cooinda Community Services are delivered across the Hume region. Don’t worry if you are not eligible for services through My Aged Care, Cooinda can still provide assistance through a fee-for-service arrangement delivering domestic and home care assistance, community meal delivery as well as gardening and maintenance services.
So, who will be looking after you? Our care managers and care co-ordinators are all vastly experienced in the nursing field, having worked in various roles across the public and private health sectors.
As such, they have a wealth of knowledge when navigating through the health- and care-related services in our area. Working alongside our senior team, we have our local community care support workers who are qualified personal care attendants.
They are all well experienced and caring, each working as part of the team to ensure your needs are communicated and met in an efficient and timely manner, both respectfully and confidentially.
Our care support workers facilitate in completing in-home tasks as well as assistance to access your local communities. Domestic care, for example home help, personal care, shopping assistance and meal preparation as well as carer respite, transport and appointment escorts.
We can even assist with telehealth appointments, and our support workers have access to a fleet of vehicles to transport you comfortably and safely.
And, of course, our focus extends beyond you and your wellbeing.
Our Cooinda gardening and maintenance services have the skills, tools and equipment to have your general maintenance needs addressed and your lawns, shrubs and garden beds looking the best in the street.
Regular attendance can be scheduled to your requirements and servicing at your direction, during all seasons and weather.
Cooinda has its own meals on wheels service.
Seasonal menus feature fresh, locally sourced produce delivered hot to your door each day.
This can be arranged on a fee-for-service arrangement or if eligible can be part-funded through a home care package.
Our community services form only part of what Cooinda can offer you.
Our residential aged care facility offers both respite and permanent care options.
Again, access to such services is arranged through a My Aged Care assessment approval.
If not eligible through an assessment, these can also be provided through a fee-for-service arrangement.
Respite care
Under a respite arrangement, Cooinda can offer up to 63 days of respite each financial year. Such care is usually taken in blocks of two to four weeks, depending on your needs.
It is designed to allow you to recharge your batteries or give your carer a well-deserved break.
Your time in respite care will offer you an opportunity to experience Cooinda’s delivery of services.
Our experienced care team will help you with showering, mobility and your personal care needs.
You will also enjoy nutritious meals cooked on site using fresh, local produce.
Furthermore, you can join in the fun with our health and wellbeing activities, gentle exercise and entertainment, during your stay.
Perhaps you will also meet new friends or rekindle old friendships with people who have already made Cooinda their home.
Admissions officer Julie Folan can help you plan your respite admission in advance or arrange respite in the event of an emergency.
Permanent care
We see permanent care as an extension of respite care. Cooinda has 82 permanent care accommodation rooms designed to suit a range of care needs as individual as you.
By listening to your choices, we plan and deliver a holistic care plan. This ensures you enjoy social, emotional and personal wellbeing while at Cooinda.
We understand when moving into residential care you may feel a loss of independence.
To help with this, we encourage families to decorate your room with favourite and familiar items. By doing this, you will feel more at home in your new surroundings.
We have traditional or modern, contemporary rooms. Each features its own ensuite and garden views.
Our recently opened 13-bed Memory Support Wing was designed in consultation with Dementia Australia. As a result, it offers a warm, friendly, homely atmosphere.
Furthermore, it has the most up-to-date care facilities and services.
And let’s not forget about our independent living units. Cooinda’s has 67 on-site independent retirement living villas offering traditional and modern living, with a choice of one- or two-bedroom units or a two-bedroom unit with study.
In addition, all units feature light and airy open living with a garage and separate kitchen, bathroom and laundry.
Furthermore, the units are a short distance from Benalla’s town centre by car, scooter or bus.
Enjoy easy outdoor living with family and friends.
We have an active community of couples and singles living independently at Cooinda.
Cooinda’s Retirement Living Community Centre, ‘The Hub’, is located at the heart of the site, with an outdoor sitting area, pergola and electric barbecue. The area is ideal for gatherings.
Most of all, it’s a great place to meet new friends, enjoy group dinners, play snooker and join people with similar interests.
There’s a lot to consider and a lot on offer at Cooinda.
