The 2004 model K104 Kenworth she drives for SimHaul of Cobram was a crowd favourite, winning her people’s choice award for the truck display.
She was one of 10 drivers to submit vehicles for the display, which doubled as a promotion for the upcoming Deniliquin Truck Show & Industry Expo.
Truck show committee member John Creenaune said every person who purchased a truck show raffle ticket was offered the opportunity to vote for the best truck.
“Elly’s truck did stand out and it was an older truck, although the close runner-up was a newer model.
“Even though it’s meant to be anonymous, I think perhaps Elly being a local and a lady driver may have helped win some votes. You don’t really see too many female drivers.
“She’s been driving this truck from SimHaul permanently for four years now and does a bit of carting around the region.”
More passionate drivers like Ms Stringer will converge on the town for the Deniliquin Truck Show & Industry Expo from October 24-26.
The celebration of the transport industry includes the Deniliquin & District Transport Industry Wall of Fame dinner at the Deniliquin RSL Club on the Friday night.
On the Saturday, the Deniliquin Truck Show and Modified Tractor Pull will roar into action at the famous Deniliquin Ute Muster site.
The weekend concludes with a transport industry memorial service, to remember those lost from the industry, at the Legend’s Rest rest stop on Davidson St, Deniliquin, where the wall of fame and memorial wall stands.
