According to the council, it’s to say ‘thank you’ to residents for adapting to the fortnightly schedule and also to ease the load with the extra waste and recyclables generated over the holidays.
Chair administrator, Dr Graeme Emonson has congratulated householders for their efforts at sustainability this year, as more and more recyclable and organic waste is being diverted from landfill.
“Christmas and New Year are a time for celebrations with family and friends – with gift-giving, visitors and shared meals leaving less space than usual in our bins,” Dr Emonson said.
“The extra collections will lighten that load and make it easier to sort waste correctly.”
The Resource Recovery Centre in Yarrawonga will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
It will be open normal hours on all other days, except on days of catastrophic fire danger or total fire ban.
