Firewood collection is allowed

Sergeant Peter Kirk said the age-old tradition of turning it into a camping trip however, must stop.

‘‘You can’t go out in to the forest in large groups, just enough to help you get what you need,’’ he said.

‘‘The state directive is for there to be groups of no more than two, with social distancing of 1.5m.

‘‘You also can’t strike up the barbecue while you’re there, or decide to camp out overnight.

‘‘You can go there, collect your wood and then come back home again.’’

Firewood permit applications are available from the Service NSW office in Harrison St, Deniliquin.

Forms are available on the information table at the front of the building during operating hours.

Completed forms can be lodged on your behalf by Service NSW staff, or follow the guidelines on the form to send your own electronic application.
