The workshops aim to educate locals and provide valuable skills to help support mental health and wellbeing in their communities.
The training sessions will include the following programs:
• Accidental Counsellor Training: This program is designed for individuals who find themselves in a supportive role for friends, family or colleagues experiencing mental health challenges. Participants will learn how to provide effective support and guidance in a compassionate manner.
• Mental Health First Aid Training: This internationally recognised program teaches participants how to recognise the signs of mental health problems, and how to provide initial help and support until professional help is available.
• SafeTALK Training: SafeTALK is a half-day alertness training that prepares anyone over the age of 15, regardless of prior experience or training, to become a suicide-alert helper. Participants will learn to recognise warning signs and how to connect people with thoughts of suicide to intervention resources.
The Kyabram workshop will be on Monday, May 6 from 1pm to 4pm at the Kyabram Community Learning Centre.
Other events will take place in April and May in Goornong, Axedale, Wycheproof and Wedderburn.
