The new Probationary Constable was among 314 to graduate from the Goulburn Police Academy last week – the biggest class in 13 years.
Pro Const Simcoe is originally from Leeton and has been set on a policing career since finishing high school.
“I don’t come from a family of police, but always wanted to and thought why not do it as soon as I can,” she said.
“I did the IPROWD (Indigenous Police Recruiting Our Way Delivery) program, then have gone straight into the cops.
“It (training) was cold because it was winter, but was really good; I made lifelong friends.”
The 19-year-old completed eight months of training, equally split between online training and then in-person at Goulburn.
Growing up in the Riverina, Pro Const Simcoe has some childhood pastimes that translate well to Deniliquin.
“I grew up waterskiing and playing footy, AFL.
“It (Deniliquin) is a charming town; it’s similar to where I’m from and I’m liking it so far.
“I had both the Murrumbidgee and Murray River Police District as one of my preferences.
“I’m just excited for my new town and new job.
“I’m very excited to meet the community and get to know the locals.”
Acting Inspector William Middlebrook said the recruitment of Pro Const Simcoe coincided nicely with the ‘Be a Cop in your Home Town’ recruitment initiative.
“If you have ever thought about becoming a police officer, there’s never been a better time,’’ he said.
“We know that becoming a police officer and moving away from home can be a big ask, especially if you have family and enjoy where you live.
“When you join the NSW Police Force, you can identify where you would like to work, such as where you and your family live now, and have confidence about where you’ll be working once you become a police officer.”
Positions are available in Deniliquin and surrounding areas.
