As a recipient of a DGC grant last year, Deniliquin RSL Bowls Club member Wayne Bradley said the club introduced new activities which has grown club membership.
“The money we received has be tremendously beneficial for us,” Mr Bradley said.
“It’s allowed us to put in motion a few things we’d been wanting to do for a while.”
Using the funds granted, the club started its Edward River Junior Bowls Academy.
Its goal is to get more young people involved in the sport.
A portion of the funds went towards the purchase of new equipment for the club’s new junior players, including several sets of bowling balls more suitable for smaller hands.
The club has also been able to offer free membership and training to junior bowlers, and purchase extra equipment to lend to local primary schools interested in learning the sport.
With the latest round of DCG grants soon to open, Mr Bradley encouraged all local groups to consider making an application.
In order to register for a grant, you must first attend the DCG’s information night to collect an application package.
It will be held this Wednesday, August 2 from 5.30pm at the RSL Bowls Club in Duncan St, Deniliquin - opposite the Deniliquin RSL Club.
On average the group distributes up to $40,000 worth of grants every year, with individual grants generally up to $3000.
Funds for these grants come from commissions earned from accounts at the Deniliquin Bendigo Bank branch, linked to the Connected Communities Program.
Anyone interested in learning more about the DCG, and how you can support further funding distributions as part of the Connected Communities Program, are also invited to attend.
RSVPs are preferred. Email your name and contact details to deniliquincommunitygroup@hotmail.com.
