The Country Education Foundation (CEF) Edward River’s grants application period will close on October 31.
Each year, the foundation provides vital support for local students, from helping cover course expenses and accommodation bonds to funding essential study tools.
The impact is life-changing, especially for those forced to leave home to chase their educational goals.
For grant recipient Eliza Atley, who is studying a Certificate III in Hairdressing, the funding has made a meaningful difference in her education.
“The funding has been put towards my hairdressing kit, and this has helped me to have the correct equipment for classes,” she said.
“It meant so much to me as it has helped me be able to pay for the full kit, not just half.”
The CEFERR grants are open to anyone who lives in or attended school in the area covered by the Edward River Region, and aged between 16 and 25.
Applicants will need to demonstrate financial need and a commitment to achieving their goals.
Grants can be used to support post school education and training, such as university, TAFE, a traineeship or apprenticeship.
This may include educational expenses such as textbooks, travel, accommodation, tools or technology for study. Grants will be offered as a reimbursement.
“Our branch is proud to support local youth each year to achieve their career aspirations,” CEFERR member Mel Broadbent said.
“We know just how financially challenging it can be to cover the costs of study, including living away from home.
“Students may not be entirely sure of their plans for 2026 just yet, however we are encouraging those with intention to study, to apply.”
CEF CEO Wendy Mason said the ongoing cost-of-living crisis has made it challenging for young people in regional areas to access further education and training opportunities, but the support provided by a local CEF foundation will provide a helping hand.
“We know that about 75 per cent of CEF-supported students in 2024 had to move away from home to pursue further studies or training, which adds to the financial burden of further their education.”
The Country Education Foundation of Australia (CEF) is a community-driven national charity made up of 49 local CEF foundations based in rural and regional locations across Australia, including CEF Edward River Region.
