Plans for the new centre, expected to cost more than $1 million, were first presented to Edward River Council at the end of 2022.
Councillors last week unanimously accepted the development application, following an extensive submissions process.
There were no submissions from the general public, although slight adjustments to the plans were made following feedback from NSW Department of Education and Transport for NSW.
The new centre is proposed for vacant land at the corner of Hardinge and Wood Sts.
In documentation provided to the council, the development proponents say the centre will operate from 7am to 6pm weekdays.
They highlight any use of the facility out of the time frame will be for staff and cleaning only.
The centre will accommodate up to 38 children and six staff, and will include external play areas and a dedicated car park.
“Three playrooms are proposed along the Hardinge St side of the property, with rooms one and two connected by bi-fold doors,” documentation supporting the development application states.
“Room three is separated from playroom two by a bathroom area, change space and storage area.
“Bathrooms and a cot room are located in the space between playroom one and the reception area.
“The outdoor play area is banked into the western side of the property.
“A portion of the area is covered by a roof that is an extension of the playroom three roof, and covered spaces that also line the playrooms and connect to the building reception.”
A revised floorplan for the centre, showing entry from the car park in Wood St rather than the Hardinge St side of the building.
In a separate part of the centre is a kitchen and laundry.
The centre would cater for up to eight children ages zero to two, 10 between two and three and 20 between three and five.
The 10 space car park would be accessed from Wood St, and include six staff spaces.
Based on the advice of Transport for NSW, the entry to the building has been relocated from the Hardinge St side of the building to the Wood St side.
The external design of the building has been carefully considered to be consistent with the residential character of the neighbourhood.
“The proposal is to have light brown, mid-grey and dark grey tones, which will create a visually recessive appearance in the predominant residential area,” the documentation reads.
“The outdoor play areas provide a permeable landscaped area, a variety of surfaces and experiences for use and education of children, incorporating appropriate sub access and shaded areas.”
