With Central Victoria emerging as the jewel in the state’s culinary crown, the town has been selected to host the first ever People’s Choice Wine Awards.
The event, conceived by Andrew Pattison of Burke and Wills Winery and David Smith of WineHuntersAUS, aims to showcase the exceptional craftsmanship of local winemakers and position central Victoria as a must-visit hotspot for world-class dining and wine experiences.
“Unlike traditional wine shows, this event blends formal judging with a true ‘people’s choice’ element,” Mr Smith said.
“Its premise is that wines entered are properly judged by five judges, but to be a judge, one must be a serious wine lover, considerer, buyer, but have no formal wine education.
“This eliminates the various euro-centric biases that many formal wine judges appear to have, and offer participating wineries feedback from considered purchasers.”
The authentic people’s choice element of the show is set to be when guests at the awards dinner try the gold medal wines chosen by the judges and vote for their favourite.
Participating wineries were only allowed to submit one wine per class.
The gold medal wines tasting and awards dinner will be held at Palling Bros Brewery in Heathcote on November 15.
