The Heritage Village is set to house a new information centre and showcases a number of objects and buildings that have historical significance in the local area.
It is located in Paterson St, and was opened this month.
After years of planning for the project, Moulamein Community Development Inc. received $568,000 under the Federal Government’s Drought Communities Program to bring the project to life.
The federal funding contributed to the relocation and rebuild of the shearing shed, construction of a new amenities block, and the relocation of the old school.
Murray River Councillor Neil Gorey said the new Heritage Village will high-light and showcase the history of the region.
“Moulamein certainly has a great story to tell, and the Heritage Village will be a living breathing experience for tourists, school children and residents alike, with the ability to offer education-al programs and heritage preservation experiences,” he said.
“The Moulamein Development Committee is to be congratulated for leading such a historically significant venture.
“It is a group of dynamic and innovative people who had a vision and turned that vision into reality.
“We thank the Federal Government for their support of this project and I’d encourage locals and visitors to take a look at these exciting new facilities,” he said.
Federal Member for Farrer Sussan Ley joined the community at the official opening last week, which saw a ribbon cutting and afternoon tea in the new Jeraly Woolshed.
