Works were carried out day and night at Inland Rail sites at Seymour-Avenel Rd Seymour, Kilmore East, Tallarook, Wallan, Wangaratta and Glenrowan on Thursday, March 7 until Wednesday, March 13.
McConnell Dowell and the Australian Rail Track Corporation Inland Rail will demolish and remove two bridges and lower tracks, decommission old rail lines, install new tracks, construct a new station platform, upgrade rail signalling and conduct track slewing.
The old Seymour-Avenel Rd Bridge was demolished and removed, including the bridge decks, central pier and eastern abutment.
Other works completed included lowering tracks, decommissioning old rail lines, installing new tracks, constructing a new station platform, upgrading rail signalling, and conducting track slewing.
More works will be completed later in 2024 at the Seymour-Avenel Rd Bridge.
ARTC Victoria and South Australia general manager projects Ed Walker said this was the largest scope of work ever conducted during a track possession.
“From Seymour to Wangaratta, we will have teams of workers pushing ahead with the Inland Rail project,” he said.
“We apologise for the disruptions and thank local communities for their patience and understanding as we carry out the work on this major nation-building project.”
V/Line services were and are going to be disrupted or cancelled during the work period, and passengers are advised to check the V/Line website for more information.
The track possession will see essential rail maintenance and improvements carried out, including track tamping, structure repairs, turnout maintenance and mudhole removal.
ARTC will also conduct routine track maintenance activities along the length of the line, including signalling works and vegetation control.
