In the category for artists from the 2710 postcode area only, Mrs Harris’ work called ‘Retirement’ caught the eye of fine arts judge Glenda Cornell.
It depicts a cabin in dense bushland and a small boat.
“It is a lovely plein air sketch with limited pen work,” Mrs Cornell said of the piece.
“It really makes sense for a serene painting with good composition.”
The local artist prize is one of 17 prize categories as part of the annual Rotary Easter Art Show, which ran from Friday to yesterday.
And Mrs Harris was not the only local artist to claim one of the other prizes.
Almost half of the 76 exhibitors were from Deniliquin and district, with 230 paintings on display in total.
Only one of the prizes was yet to be awarded as the Pastoral Times went to print yesterday, with the People’s Choice to be announced just before the exhibition closed at 4pm.
