As you enter the Deniliquin Town Hall foyer you are greeted with artwork created by local artist Josephine Duffy, encompassing the historic nature of the hall and it’s placement in a heritage zone.
Ms Duffy was selected by Edward River Council to have her art features in the renovated historic building, with the project funded by a Regional NSW Community Grant.
The ERC and the Deniliquin Town Hall Advisory Committee commenced an expression of interest process last August, selecting Ms Duffy as the winner.
“We received so many strong applications,” Mayor Peta Betts said.
“Each artist offered something unique and different.
“In the end, Josephine’s application best met the selection criteria, and we were thrilled to commission her for the work.”
Ms Duffy was born and raised in the farming and bushland environments of Deni.
She has been creating artwork for more than four decades, and has exhibited her work locally, regionally and internationally.
Her connection to rural and remote communities lives on through the creation of art about the Southern Riverina, through vital local community projects that foster the skills of rural people, seeking to promote indigenous knowledge holders and build cultural networks.
