This year’s pick a box with Kagome event will be held in aid of Echuca Regional Health and is on Saturday, March 5, at its Wilson Rd, Echuca, farm.
Directions to the farm are available at www.kagome.com.au
Kagome will provide signage on Wilson Rd, as well as a supervised car park at the property, enabling people to find the picking location easily.
The event is on from 8am until noon and has been a feature of the company’s tomato harvest launch for the past four years.
The pick-a-box event is as simple as it sounds. Those involved in the event pay $10 for the privilege of selecting their own tomatoes and filling up a box.
All proceeds received at the event will be matched by Kagome Australia and will then be donated to Echuca Regional Health.
Any member of the public can attend and if the company’s latest pick-a-box event, at Deniliquin, is any indication, the result will be a major help for ERH.
The funds from the Deniliquin event, held earlier this month, were in support of the Deniliquin Health Service.
The event has been held at different locations in previous years and with a high tomato quality this year a big response is expected to the call for support for ERH.
Kagome is expecting to process 215,000 tonnes of tomatoes this year, slightly up on last year’s figure, which was just below 200,000.
It has four or five third-party growers and is responsible for about 33 per cent of the tomato volume that goes through the plant during harvest season.
The company is currently harvesting at all its locations, stretching from Lake Boga to Deniliquin and including Mathoura and Rochester, along with Darlington Point.
This year there is no limit to the number of boxes people can pick.
The event is extremely popular with city-based people, who visit annually to pick tomatoes.
Kagome has joined forces with the Rotary Club of Echuca Moama to stage this year’s pick-a-box event. The Rotary Club will be holding a barbecue at the event.
People are asked to bring their own boxes, wear closed-toe footwear, a hat and sunscreen, and have enough cash for the amount of boxes they intend to purchase.
