The first talk on kidney health will be held next Wednesday, March 6.
Deniliquin Renal Unit nurse unit manager Alana Tilders will be the guest speaker on the day.
The session will be held at the Deniliquin Community Health Centre on Macauley St (opposite Navorina) from 10.30am to noon.
After a half-hour talk, attendees can ask questions before mingling over a cuppa and a chat.
The session is open to anyone.
Our kidneys play a vital role in our bodies, working hard to clean our blood and create urine 24 hours a day.
Without kidney function, your body can struggle to process toxins and eliminate waste, which can have a devastating impact on health.
If our kidneys are not healthy, other body organs can suffer, leading to further health complications.
About 1.8 million Australians are unaware they live with kidney disease.
You can lose 90 per cent of your kidney function before symptoms appear.
Alana will provide more information on kidneys, the importance of kidney health and the treatments available.
She will also offer information about easy, practical things people can do to reduce the risk of kidney disease and speak on the Renal Dialysis Unit at Deniliquin Health Service.
Since the renal unit opened some years ago, the need for dialysis has increased exponentially. Sadly, this trend is not slowing down.
While registration to attend this talk is not compulsory, people are asked to register their details by texting 0428 281 060 with their name or email lourene@bigpond.com.
The Lifting Health Outcomes banner campaign was launched on February 15.
Twelve banners are being displayed throughout the community, urging residents to take health into their own hands with a strong call to action.
With a focus on chronic disease, the campaign aims to reduce risk or improve health.
